R.I.P. Matthew Odietus, Candy Snatchers' Guitarist
Posted by Dave Harrison on June 30th, 2008
![]() According to Black Lung Records, Matthew Odietus, guitarist for Virginia's legendary garage punk band The Candy Snatchers, has died. According to the label: "The rocknroll world lost one of the all time great guitar players last night.. Mr Matthew Odietus of the almighty Candy Snatchers died in his home town of Virginia Beach,VA on June 28. Matt will be sorely missed by many people. My heart goes out to his mother and everyone else who counted Matt as a friend." His passing was also confirmed by the band's official website. The cause of death was not made public. The Candy Snatchers have released five albums and countless singles- notorious for their chaotic, drunken, and bloody shows. Using Chuck Berry and classic rock 'n roll and mixing it with the energy and speed of classic punk rock and hardcore, The Candy Snatchers made a name for themselves in the mid-1990s, playing often in NYC at clubs like The Continental. Anyone who was lucky enough to see this man in action can attest this is a huge loss for rock 'n roll.
