Gimme Noise! Weekend Edition

Labor Day has come and gone and the days of summer are numbered.  That being said, there are still a couple free shows worth checking out this weekend, as well as a couple that you'll have to shell out a few bucks for, but it's better than sitting at home with your 40oz of malt liquor watching Top Model reruns, ain't it?

Titus Andronicus at Lit Lounge (92 Second Ave. Manhattan) Friday 9/05 9pm $tba

Coming off of their ridiculously amazing set opening for Yo La Tengo the other Sunday at McCarren Park Pool, Titus Andronicus  play a place that they surely won't be playing for long, the tiny basement/torture chamber that is Lit Lounge.  If you are a fan of tuneful poppy songs with a punk rock edge and a bit of experimentation, check out these guys and get the album so you can say you saw 'em before they were huge.

East Village Radio Music Festival at South Street Seaport (Pier 17 West Side Manhattan) Saturday 9/06 1pm FREE

Hosted by East Village Radio, NYC's pre-eminent pirate radio station, this free show at South Street Seaport is hosted by KRS One and features performances by Boris, Awesome Color, and the Vivian Girls.  It's free, so check out some bands you've been hearing about but haven't had a chance to check out yet.

Oneida & The Ex-Models at Monster Island Art Center (210 Kent Ave. Williamsburg) Saturday 9/06 2pm FREE

If noisy post-rock and angular haircuts are more your thing, check out Oneida and The Ex-Models at Monster Island Art Center in Williamsburg this Saturday.  Again, it's free, so you have no excuse for getting out and enjoying the last few warm weekends we have left, even if it's solely to experience severe bleeding from the ears.

Magic Christian & The A-Bones at Maxwells (1039 Washington St. Hoboken) Sunday 9/07 8:30pm $10

We've extolled the virtues of Brooklyn's A-Bones on many occasions, so expect the best from them.  Magic Christian is a new band from the West Coast featuring Cyril Jordan from the Flamin' Groovies and Clem Burke from Blondie.  If their myspace is in any way indicative of the way they sound live, be prepared for a garage rock explosion in Hoboken at Maxwells this Sunday.
