Eef Barzelay @ Mercury Lounge

Eef Barzelay put on an exuberant performance at Mercury Lounge this Monday night.  Hinting that this tour might be his last, he yipped and jumped all over the stage covering almost every track from his two most recent solo efforts.  And, while the set left out most of my favorite songs from Clem Snide, his enthusiasm and conviction on new tracks like "Lose Big" sold me on the show.

Some of the most compelling moments came when the band left the stage and Eef was left alone with his guitar (or baritone ukulele), and he ruminated on his genuine misgivings of leaving the road and his music career behind.  As a longtime fan of Eef's work, I hope that this isn't the end of one of the great performers and lyricists touring today.
